Debby 8/6/24 10:45AM UPDATE

8/6/24 at 10:45AM

Staff continues to monitor and prepare for now Tropical Storm Debby.

Very little has changed other than a slightly faster storm movement.  We continue to expect heavy rainfall bringing the threat of flash flooding, which continues to be our greatest risk.   The forecast confidence is high regarding heavy rainfall and flooding.

What remains the same:

  • GFL Wednesday Trash Services – With the current track and timing, they do not anticipate changes to their schedule this week.  They will continue to monitor the storms projected path and advise us if anything changes.  If service occurs as scheduled, please promptly remove the carts from the roadside and secure them on your property.
  • North End Drive on Area – Will not open on Wednesday morning and will remain closed throughout this event.
  • Richard Peters Park – Will not open on Wednesday morning and will remain closed throughout this event.
  • Board of Aldermen Meeting – Currently remains on schedule for Wednesday at 11:00am; however, is subject to possible cancellation.  Notification will be made via the Town’s website, social media, and sunshine list if the meeting is cancelled.
  • Rip Currents – Dangerous rip currents are expected through late week.
  • Roadway Flooding – If you encounter flooded roadways, please do not attempt to drive through flood waters.

New things to know:

  • Uncertainty remains with the track and potential additional impacts beyond tomorrow due to weak steering currents in the upper atmosphere.
  • The amount of time and distance Debby remains off the Southeast coast will determine how much restrengthening occurs and ultimately the level of impacts we may experience from additional hazards, including wind, tornado and storm surge.
  • Be mindful of the tides for this week.  Please note the graphic for quick reference.
  • We have touched base with our utility partners, ONWASA and JOEMC and they continue to monitor, prepare and are on stand-by.
  • Staff has deployed our drone today to capture pre-storm conditions.

Please continue to stay informed on the weather approaching our area, sign up for CodeRed notifications if you have not done so and ensure you have a plan for your family and pets.
