Town staff has been monitoring conditions throughout the night and continue to do so.  We are monitoring a few areas that have accumulated water in the vicinity of Richard Peters Park, Gray Street, the 2000 block of New River Inlet Road and River Road Extension.  Staff will be deploying to these areas at daybreak.  Please refrain from traveling on the roadways until conditions improve.  North Topsail Beach activated a limited staffed Emergency Operations Center for the duration of this event with essential and emergency personnel on-hand to respond.  We will continue to do so for the duration of this event.  Town Hall administration offices are closed to the public today; however, we are here to take your calls at 910-328-1349.  We will continue to provide updates throughout today.  Stay informed and be safe!

08/30/23, 2:30 PM UPDATE

The Town of North Topsail Beach remains under a Tropical Storm Warning.  We expect to see effects of Hurricane Idalia this afternoon and anticipate flooding, particularly this evening with predicted King Tides.  Please refrain from travel during this storm.

Town staff continues to monitor Hurricane Idalia for your safety and have continued throughout today to take necessary precautions in advance of the storm.  We started early this morning measuring high tide marks on the north end, near Richard Peters Park and the Gray street area, as well as completed another beach survey to remove abandoned items, secured receptacles, and continued communications with our trash contractor along with other agencies.   We are already seeing evidence of erosion along the beach, as seen in the picture of the recent dune project at BA#4.  Based on the timing of the storm with predicted wind speeds, Town Hall administrative offices will be closed to the public tomorrow, August 31, and we will resume normal business hours on Friday, September 1st at 8:00am.   Essential and emergency personnel will continue to work through this storm.  We encourage everyone to have their emergency plan in place and an emergency kit.  NTB is a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador and we encourage everyone to get your information from trusted local sources, particularly as we prepare for the impacts of Idalia.  We will share timely information as it becomes available and in addition here are some resources.  Stay informed and be safe!

08/28/23, 8:15 PM UPDATE

Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast to become a hurricane by this evening with a track into the northeast Gulf of Mexico.  On the current track, impacts may be felt in our area as early as Wednesday night.  The forecast track may change and remember impacts can be felt far from the center of the storm.  Flooding is a concern for our area due to the projected rain amounts from Tropical Storm Idalia along with King Tides this week.  North Topsail Beach continues to monitor the storm and will provide information as conditions continue to develop.  We will continue to provide information and updates on the Town’s website and Facebook page.

Please remember that DANGEROUS Rip Currents are expected through mid-week and may last all week depending on the track of Idalia.  Stay informed and be safe.
